We stock Rico reeds and accessories for Clarinet and Saxophone. Rico has a long and respected history that began in France with Joseph Rico in 1928. Rico sent reeds from Paris to his nephew, Frank De Michele, who was playing Clarinet in Walt Disney studios and living in Los Angeles. Frank was having trouble finding good reeds in his local area. Rico began sending cane over to Frank once Rico’s reed supplier couldn’t keep up. That same year, Frank De Michele found partners, including musician and engineer Roy J. Maier, to create a reed factory in America that was then called Rico after his uncle.

We carry a selection of Vandoren Clarinet and Saxophone reeds, ligatures, caps, and mouthpieces. Vandoren mouthpieces undergo an involved fabrication process that ensures precision and consistency. They are given a final check for quality, sound, and pitch by professional musicians before being shipped off. Mouthpieces are the essential tool for a clarinetist’s expression. A clarinet teacher at the Conservatoire de Paris from 1949 to 1978, Ulysse Delecluse, often said that “whatever the level of musician, they cannot afford to play with a second-rate mouthpiece.” Vandoren reeds are no less involved than the mouthpieces. The cane that is used to create the reeds takes a full four years to grow, dry out, cut, and bevel. Vandoren reeds are also tested by professionals to ensure utmost quality.
